Council Roles

Jane English was co-opted onto the council on 5th June, 2019.

Councillor English is on the council’s Staffing Committee and the Burnham Observatory Working Group.

She also co-represents the council on the Community Action Panel.


Biography

Jane has lived and worked in Burnham since 1983 as a teacher and a self-employed tutor of French and English. She has taught at St Peter’s High School and Ormiston Rivers Academy, and is currently employed as a supply teacher at St Mary’s primary school.

Formerly from the Cotswolds, Jane has a MA in Applied Linguistics, has lectured in French for business, worked as a police interpreter and has featured on Nick Ferrari’s LBC show speaking on Fertility issues.

In addition, Jane is a singer and performer, appearing on national radio and around the UK.

She was a founder and director of local community radio station Saint FM, presenting a show for 15 years, and worked as a committee member and organiser on the local music festival, Riverfest.

She continues to work as a volunteer with various groups in the town, actively fundraising for Dementia charity, SEAN (Support and Essex Admiral Nurse).

This provides  information about any financial interest which a councillor has, or any benefit which he or she receives, which others might reasonably consider to influence his or her actions or words as a member of the Town Council.
