Burnham on Crouch U3A is a voluntary group of retired and semi-retired people who come together to continue their educational, social and creative interests in a friendly and informal environment.
The Burnham U3A provides the opportunity to meet, chat and keep mentally and physically active.
U3A stands for University of the Third Age – the three ages being childhood, adulthood and senior adulthood . The Third Age starts when you have finished raising your family or working full-time and are have more freedom to pursue your interests or to try something new.
The Burnham U3A was established in the late 1990s.
It has over 270 members and over 35 interest groups. These cover a wide range of academic, social and physical activities including Table Tennis, Badminton, Line Dancing, Walking, Book Groups, Gardening, Wine Appreciation, Recorder Playing, Social History, Needlework and Digital Photography among others.
Each interest group has a leader and is run by members for other members. It is all voluntary.
General meetings are held on the first Friday of the month starting at 2.30 pm in the Village Hall in Burnham on Crouch. Meetings typically include a variety of interesting professional speakers, event and group updates and opportunities to meet other members over light refreshments.
