Students from St Peter’s School (now the Ormiston Rivers Academy) came up with designs for these shelters in Riverside Park. The picture above shows the plan view of their design.

They designed the shelters to have their entrances at different angles to provide better protection from different wind directions.

They were as vandal-proof as they could be made, and are often used by young people. Sadly, in may 2012, shortly after they were finished, someone thought it would be amusing to set them on fire.

However, Maldon District Council rebuilt them using more metal panels and they are still used today.
